3 Easy New Year’s Day vintage hairstyles you can do with your MORNING AFTER CURLS

Vintage hairstyles actually can be easy and here are 3 options to try with your curls from last night that you just slept on.

So. It’s the morning after your New Year’s celebrating and you might look a bit like a hot mess. You looked fabulous last night with gorgeous curls, but now you need to get out the door without looking like…well…you partied too hard last night.

Here are tutorials for three fairly easy vintage hairstyle options. They all need a little help with a curl, but there is no need for precision curls. You can just use whatever curl is still left in your hair from last night.

The first hairstyle is the easiest. It is inspired by the singer Adele. She does such a lovely job of interpreting 1950s and 1960s style and fashion into her own chic and contemporary version.

Step 1 – Adele 1960s Hairstyle

Brush out the curls straight down toward the floor.

Part out a section on the crown. The partings on the left and right should line up from the peak of the eyebrows. In most of the vintage hairstyles I do I use this as a general rule. For most vintage hairstyles with a side part to fall correctly, you want the part to line up with the peak of the eyebrow.

Step 3 – Adele 1960s Hairstyle

Pull the section back to lay flat on the head. You can use a big, cute barrette to hold this in place or twist the ends and stick bobby pins in the twisted part to hide them. Just, please, to keep it chic, don’t cross showing bobby pins in an X over the ends to hold them in place. That ruins the fabulousness.

The second easy vintage hairstyle needs a bouffant size hairnet available at any Sally Beauty Supply. In this example I use a net that is the same color as the hair, but if you like hair with a little bit of spunk, try using a hairnet that is the opposite of your hair color, like a white hairnet in dark hair or a black hairnet in blonde or red hair. Then you sort of have an instant accessory in your hair as well because it resembles a snood.

The hairstyle inspiration comes from this 1940s-ish illustration.

Step 1 – 1940s Snood Hairstyle

Create a center part.

Step 2 – 1940s Snood Hairstyle

Comb the sides down and back against the side of the head.

Twist the left side tight against the head right above the ear. Hide bobby pins in the twist to hold it in place.

Repeat step 3 on the right side.

Fluff the rest of the hair and lightly hairspray it to give it some volume.

Stretch the hairnet out and wrap it around all of the hanging down hair, starting with the ends at the bottom.

Pull the hairnet up to enclose the back of the head.

Use a couple bobby pins to secure the elastic edges of the hairnet.

Now the hair is encapsulated, bunch the lower section up and press it against the lower nape of the neck.

Bobby pin through the hairnet to the scalp to hold the shape you just created.

This last easy vintage hairstyle is inspired by this picture of Lucille Ball. There are loads of pictures online with many different chic updos that she wore through her career. This one is my favorite. There is something elegant, but also playful about it.

This hairstyle also make a great fast undo hairstyle for a WWII themed event. Use lots of bobby pins if you plan on dancing.

Step 1 – Lucille Ball Hairstyle

This hairstyle is done in 3 sections. Part the hair on the right side to start the sectioning.

Section a long piece that runs along the back of the head. Leave hair on either side out of section. Twist the hair up and tight against the head. Bobby pin into the twist of this piece to hold it in place. Leave the ends out for a future step.

Brush the largest of the side sections to the left of the part all together and back.

Twist this section up and tight against the head toward the back of the head above the ear. Bobby pin into the twist of this piece to hold it in place. Leave the ends out for a future step.

Brush the smallest of the side sections to the right of the part all together and back.

Twist this section up and tight against the head toward the back of the head above the ear. Bobby pin into the twist of this piece to hold it in place. Leave the ends out for a future step.

All of the hair should now be pinned up with the ends hanging out.

Take the ends of the section to the left of the part and brush them into one piece.

Roll this piece into a large victory roll. Bobby pin it in place.

Take the ends of the section to the right of the part and brush them into one piece. Roll this piece into a large victory roll. Bobby pin it in place.

Take the ends of the section at the back of the head in the middle and brush them into one piece. Roll this piece into a large victory roll. Bobby pin it in place.
